Jam Saves Money – how to use Jam or Jelly to heighten your meals and ease your wallet

Spread the love

You’re here to learn how jam saves money while enhancing flavor? You’re in the right place!

Hi, I’m Olivia, a trained teacher and now wife and mom who cares about feeding her family well and caring for the household finances prudently. As a disclaimer – this was written by a real person with real fingers and real eyes that might have missed a mistake or two, please forgive me. This real person also appreciates when you give feedback via comment or email Olivia@FortressKeeper.com. I hope to chat with you soon!

When I say Jam throughout this article, please assume I mean any jam, jelly, preserve, marmalade, that you would like to use in its place. There are no rules to what exactly you have to use.

Jam as a snack

The most common way to use jam is as a side for breakfast or a snack of jam on toast, an English muffin, or another bread. There are several more ways to use Jam as a snack that all ages will enjoy.

Homemade Poptarts are one snack idea… Or you can take premade Poptarts and dip them in your favorite jam or jelly.

Easy crackers, jam, and peanut butter or cheese would be a great side plate when kids (or adults) need a sweet and savory snack between meals.

Jam as a delicious dessert

The first easy dessert is thumbprint cookies. You can use any of your favorite flavors of jam and add them to the top of the cookie. In the same batch, you could have many different varieties.

Sandwich cookies and Jam bars are also wonderful ways to take a sweet snack with you on the go or enjoy them with friends around your table or with tea. These are just two of a million different recipe options.

If you’re already making boxed brownies, jam can enhance the flavor by adding a sweet and delicious topping: Make Box Brownies Better Before baking, just swirl the top of the brownie batter with strawberry jam for added flavor. Bonus: It will look so pretty, too!The Pioneer Woman

Jam as a replacement sweetener

As I’m experimenting with sourdough, I’ve really enjoyed this recipe for easy sourdough discard pancakes. My favorite addition has been replacing the sweetener with blackberry jam/syrup that our family made this summer. I don’t particularly measure anymore so we probably add much more than the two tablespoons than the recipe calls for, but the pancakes turn a beautiful purple and taste delicious.

Our friends love flavored milk so instead of chocolate milk, they’ve started using berry syrups or jams and have loved the resulting blackberry or strawberry flavored milk. That’s the fancy flavored milk, but here the jam saves money and increases healthiness by including real berries and NO Chemicals!

Jam and Jelly can also be used instead of sugar or syrup on top of pancakes or French toast. This stretches the syrup you have (maple syrup is especially delicious and pricy) and lets jam save you money.

Jam as a flavor enhancer

As we entertain guests this season, a charcuterie board is fantastic for people to pick and mingle. Put Jam on the side of the board with some crackers and cheese and you have given people a new delicious flavor to add to their palate.

As before with the pancakes and French toast, this Monte Cristo recipe is a ham and cheese sandwich dipped with egg and cooked to perfection. Jam is a delectable spread for the top to add a little sweetness or as a dip on the side, similar to any syrup.
